New Years means different things to different people. For many it is new beginnings, for some it is the start of a new diet, for others it's starting a new family. Well for me a new year causes me to take a look at myself inwardly and ask myself how can I make life better for me and the next person.
Well, this will be a year for more smiles, hugs, I love you's, I appreciate you, more of HIM (Jesus) & less of me, & more family time. I'm sure a lot of us would agree! I don't know about you but I promise, I don't have time to waste. I want to make each second, minute & day count. And one way I have decided to this is to prioritize more and eliminate things that don't matter.

Well, to all that read this blog make a difference in 2012.... Smile more, hug more and be a blessing to someone else!!! Happy New

Wow!!! We are soooo excited about our updated website! We still have a few corrections we need to make, we hope that the navigation is very easy for each of you.

We have added a few extras to the website.... A before & after contest. This is a lot of fun so please send your entries. Remember this is a before & after....don't send us a picture and the baby has teeth. Lol ;)

We have added a diaper drive.There are many familes having a difficult time economically so we thought this would be a great way to give back. Please bring in any brand of diapers & you will receive a discount on certain packages.

Jaundice in Newborn Babies

Jaundice is a common condition in newborn infants. It is usually not dangerous. The word "jaundice" comes from the French word "jaune," meaning "yellow." It describes the yellowish or light orange appearance of the whites of the eyes and skin of many newborn babies.

Jaundice usually appears on the second or third day of life in healthy babies born after a full-term pregnancy. It often disappears within a week. About 50% of full-term infants get jaundice. In premature babies, it is even more likely to develop.

In most babies, jaundice occurs because the liver and other organs are not yet fully mature. This is particularly true in low-birth-weight or premature babies. One function of the liver is to rid the blood of extra bilirubin. Bilirubin is formed from the normal breakdown of old red blood cells. Until a baby's liver begins to function fully, bilirubin tends to build up in the baby's bloodstream, causing the skin and the whites of the eyes to become yellow.

REMEMBER:

Jaundice in newborn babies is very common.
Jaundice is only harmful if the bilirubin in your baby's blood gets too high
If you are breastfeeding, make sure you are getting the help you need to assure things are going well.

Just because....I think it would be great as a business owner just to share my heart.....

I am a business owner, a mother, a wife, a sonographer, a sister, a daughter, & a friend some times it becomes very hard to balance it all. I'm sure some of my readers can relate. At times it is very HARD to please everyone that you come into contact with. I have recently had a very tough situation that I had to deal with. Years earlier I would have dealt with the situation differently. However, as I continue to grow as a person I have realized that what a lot of us deem as tragic is very small. I have started working back in the hospital and it really causes me as a person to count my blessings. This blog is just to remind everyone that NOTHING is as BAD as it FIRST APPEARS......smile more, treat others the way you would want to be treated and love and forgive those even when it hurts.

Could you be any more excited?

You wait and hope for your period to be late. Then a small trickle of blood appears. The menstrual period is on its way. Or is it? For sure? To continue to hope and make all sorts of explanations for yourself why you are bleeding and still pregnant is very common. (Yes,I have been there, done that. Many times.)
~~Bleeding During Early Pregnancy~~

If you have bleeding when you are in the first trimester (first three months) of your pregnancy, this is vaginal bleeding, not a period while pregnant. It is not rare although you still should consult your doctor. This bleeding sometimes occurs a few days after conception when the egg attaches to the wall of the uterus. This can be anywhere from 5 to 10 days after conceiving. The bleeding may seem like an actual period, however it is not. Instead it is called an "implantation bleeding" and is just that; a small bleeding as the egg diggs into the uterine wall. So this is actually a positive spotting, that occurs prior to the day when your period is due.

There are women who bleed regularly for the first two or three months after becoming pregnant. Because the bleeding occurs regularly, it is mistaken for a period. What it actually is caused by is the hormonal changes your body is going through and is often called "early pregnancy bleeding". This is not uncommon and is one of the reasons women think they are having a period.

Sometimes there may be a blood clot that will appear on the placenta along the outer edge. Called a subchorionic bleed, this is not rare and will normally clear up on its own. This can cause bleeding that is similar to a period. You should let your physician know so they can keep track of the situation as a precaution.

Another reason may be due to the hormones get a little wacky. They may cause parts of the uterine wall lining. Because it has not totally attached itself to the placenta, parts of it will be shed. Although this sounds serious, it is actually a common occurrence and should not be a concern.

If you get pregnant while on birth control pills, you could have bleeding for several months. This is confusing because you are unable to pinpoint the exact date of your last period. The doctor will have to do an ultrasound to figure out when the baby is actually due.

~~Bleeding During Late Pregnancy~~

There are several reasons you could bleed during the latter part of your pregnancy. Obviously this late in pregnancy no period while pregnant is involved ;-)

Bleeding during late pregnancy can be a lot more serious than early bleeding and should be reported at once to your physician. One of the reasons could be a placental abruption. This is when the placenta separates from the uterine wall. This does not occur often, but is more prevalent among certain women. If you have had a history of this, it is more apt to happen. Placental abruption is a very serious and life threatening condition for both the mother and child, so call 911 if you start bleeding abundantly.

Another very serious condition is called placenta previa. This happens when the placenta blocks the cervix. If this is suspected, it is imperative that you be treated immediately. Women who have given birth by cesarean section or have had multiple uterine surgeries are more prone to this condition.

Early labor can cause bleeding as well. This should also be checked out immediately. Any time bleeding occurs when you are pregnant it is best to be on the safe side and inform your doctor. Late pregnancy bleeding is more of a call for alarm than early pregnancy bleeding. Only he or she will know if it is something to be concerned about or if it is a common occurrence.

On July 30th the Swisher Family from Fort Worth, Texas came in to determine the gender of their baby. To their amazement they are having a little princess. They were so excited, that they requested us to record their baby's heart beat into a stuffed animal and they also purchased a ultrasound picture frame as well.

~~GESTATIONAL DIABETES:~~

(GDM) or high blood sugar during pregnancy, used to be relatively rare, ocurring in about 3-4% of pregnancies. But in recents years, the rate has double now, up to 6-8% of moms-to -be are diagnosed with this prenatal complication.
Currently, women in the United States routinely under go a GDM screening between 24 weeks and 28 weeks of pregnancy. At your doctor's office, you drink a bottle of super-sweet soda sipike with pancake syrup and an hour later your blood is drawn.

If your blood sugar is higher that 140 milligrams of glucose per deciliter of blood plasma you will be referred to a laboratory for an oral glocose tolerance test. (OGTT). This involves an overnight dast, then drinking a soda that's monumentally sweeter than then first one nad having blood drawn four times over three hours.
If your blood sugar exceeds a designates theshold at two of the four blood draws,, your are diagnosed with GDM.

* Women who gain excess weight in the first trimester
* Korean-American and Filipino-American womens
* Women who drink five or more sufar-sweetened sodas a week
* Women with gum disease
* Frequent snores.

On June 24th, 2010; The Pierson Family drove from Mansfield, Texas to confirm the sex of their twins, because they were told that they were having 2 boys. They went for another exam at their Doctor and he said that it might be a girl and boy.

~~Fetal Development~~:
Because we are counting with the gestational age method, week one begins with the first day of your menstrual period. Conception hasn't yet occurred, but you already get to start counting. Such a deal - see how time flies when you're having fun!

~~Maternal Changes~~:
Your period has just started and you may be thinking about conception. For women with a 28 day cycle, ovulation occurs around 14 days after the start of your menstrual cycle. Now is a good time to begin healthy habits (if you haven't yet!). Start your pregnancy diet with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables; exercise; start taking additional folic acid if you haven't already; and stop smoking, drinking alcohol, and using over-the-counter medications. Stay away from toxic materials and rest well. Start "thinking pregnant" before you conceive so you can give your baby the best start possible.

~~Your Baby - 40 Weeks Pregnant~~

Congratulations! Your baby is full term and ready to be born at any time. This is the last week of pregnancy - or is it? If your baby doesn't come this week, don't worry. It's normal for due dates to be off a little and before you know it, your little one will be here. Babies come on their own time. You won't actually be past due until you hit around 42 or 43 weeks (depending on your caregiver's guidelines). Just try to relax and take it easy. Your baby is about 20 inches long and may weigh as much as 7 or 8 pounds.

~~Your Body~~

Congratulations! You've made it! This is your last official week of pregnancy - hopefully. Your body has been getting ready in many ways over the last few weeks but many healthy pregnancies will still be in full gear past 40 weeks gestation. This is very normal and no cause for concern. Only about four percent of women will actually give birth on their due date. In most cases (98 percent), women will give birth 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after their actual due date. You are not considered past due until approximately 42 or 43 weeks gestation. Take the time to rest, relax and prepare yourself for the arrival of your baby.

Your Baby - 38 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby could be gaining as much as one full ounce of weight per day now. While he continues to urinate and practice breathing, your baby is also storing meconium (your baby's first bowel movement) in his intestines. His lungs are continuing to mature and his grasp has become even firmer then before. Your baby is approximately 20 inches long and weighs about 6 1/2 to 7 pounds. Almost all babies born now will live with little medical intervention.

Your Body - 38 Weeks Pregnant

You may begin to feel electrical buzzes down your legs and inside your vagina. This is caused from the baby hitting nerves as he settles into your pelvis. You may be experiencing some Braxton-Hicks contractions, which can be irregular and very painful. These contractions may be felt in your back, hips, lower abdomen and your pelvis. The difference between these contractions and real ones are that true labor contractions usually start at the top of your uterus and spread over the entire uterus, through your back and into the pelvis. True labor pains will be progressive in strength and duration and will not be alleviated when you change positions. If you're unsure, call your doctor. But don't worry. Your baby is getting plump. The fat deposits are now beginning to offer form and fullness to your baby's legs and arms. Your baby is taking up most of the room in your uterus, so there is a lot less room to move around. Also, your baby's lungs are now completely developed and producing what is called surfactant, a substance that helps in the exchange of oxygen in the lungs. Your baby is now approximately 18 inches long and weighs about five pounds. If you were to have your premature baby now, you'd be happy to know that there is a 99 percent chance of the baby surviving.

This time next year your baby will be 47 Weeks Old.

~~Your Body - 35 Weeks Pregnant~~

Your routine visits to your healthcare provider may start to include the checking of your cervix now. Your doctor is checking your cervix for signs of effacement and dilation, the indication that labor is not far off. You may be having trouble sleeping now and there are also numerous physical reasons that sleep may be difficult. For instance, the baby may be putting extra pressure on your bladder and going the bathroom every 45 minutes isn't conducive to sleep. You may also have a backache, swollen feet or may not be able to find a comfortable position. You may want to try doing pelvic tilts before bed, limiting fluids after a certain time, and being tired when you go to bed can also help you in falling asleep.

Your little one is about 3 1/2 pounds and is gaining as much as eight ounces a week. He continues to sprout like a reed, his arms and legs perfectly proportioned to the rest of his body. He measures between 15 and 16 inches and has little room to wiggle, but he's still quite active, even if it means he has to squirm around most of the time.

~~Your Body:~~

You're putting on a pound a week now, but eating isn't as enjoyable as it once was. After all, your growing baby is pressing up against your stomach, hampering digestion and exacerbating heartburn.

~~Do's and Don'ts:~~

Do increase your servings of fiber-filled fruits and vegetables. Fiber-rich foods, such as prunes, apricots, plums, beans, and peas, will help you avoid constipation. If it becomes a problem, try adding psyllium, a natural, branlike stool-softener available at health food stores, to your meals. A fiber-rich diet only works if you drink more liquids, so aim for at least eight glasses of fluids, preferably water, each day.

Your normally energetic baby has started to chill out a bit. Her movements feel more like squirms and rolls rather than hyperactive kickboxing sessions. That's because this week, when she's three pounds and 15 inches long, she has begun to run out of room (or should we say womb?). Beneath her skin is a nice layer of fat, and although she still relies on the umbilical cord for nourishment, her digestive tract is almost fully developed. Fetal brain scans show that babies this age actually have rapid eye movements, which means they're dreaming. Who knows what dreams now fill your baby's slumber.

Your uterus rises five inches higher than your belly button. The mid-pregnancy honeymoon period, when discomforts subsided, is over, and you may be bothered by a list of old and new complaints: shortness of breath, heartburn, fatigue, varicose veins, and constipation.

~~Do's and Don'ts~~

Don't just put up with the pain of hemorrhoids, which are common for women in the third trimester. Apply cold compresses (crushed ice in a clean sock will do) or cotton balls soaked in witch hazel to the area for quick relief. Your doctor may also recommend a nonprescription ointment or suppository to relieve some of the discomfort.

During pregnancy, you need 60 grams of protein each day to help your baby grow (the amino acids found in protein are integral to fetal development). Your baby is packing on the ounces at such a clip that his weight gain outpaces the speed at which his limbs are growing. He's now almost 15 inches from head to toe. He's shedding the lanugo, and his eyebrows and eyelashes are filling in.

Your prepregnancy shoes may no longer fit you well. Pressure from your increasingly heavy uterus is funneling blood and other fluids to your legs, resulting in swollen feet. It's also squeezing your stomach, which makes it difficult to eat without quickly feeling too full. Elevate your feet at every opportunity and, if weather permits, wear sandals.

Do's and Don'ts

Do write a birth plan if you haven't already. It will make you think ahead to choices you will need to make about labor and delivery. Think about whether or not you want an epidural, which birthing positions you'd like to try, and, if you are having a boy, whether you'd like him to be circumcised. While childbirth may not turn out exactly as you imagine it, the document will be a useful reminder of your goals once you're in labor. If you want to do a little research on the pros and cons of your choices, now's the time.

Difference between 2D- 3D and 4D ultrasounds

There are several types of ultrasound, or sonogram, procedures, but what they have in common is that all use high-frequency sound waves that scan and “bounce” off of the abdomen and pelvic cavity, resulting in an image of the fetus and surrounding placenta. According to the American Pregnancy Association, there are several types of ultrasounds: transvaginal, standard (2 dimensional or 2D), advanced (targeting a specific issue of concern), fetal echocardiography (assessing the heart), Doppler, 3D and 4D (also known as “dynamic” 3D because it focuses on the face and fetal movements).

2D ultrasound of 28weeks and 4 days

Technically speaking, 3D and 4D ultrasounds are not “better” than 2D, just different. There are many diagnoses that can be made via 2D imaging that would not be possible with 3D and 4D views. However, when 2D and 3D or 2D and 4D are used in collaboration with one another, much information can be obtained.

4D imaging was so named when it became possible to use ultrasound to obtain 3-Dimensional images in motion, as real time live-action videos. The 4th dimension is “time.” 4D is able to capture two to four images per second, which is much quicker than 3D machines.

For “reassurance” or “keepsake” ultrasound purposes, 4D is incredible in that it can offer a view of the unborn baby moving around, yawning, sucking his or her thumb and even appearing to “wave” a hand.

The Ables family came all the way from Crowley Texas, to experince a 3D/4D ultrasound. She was 27 weeks the 31st of December, and decided to visit Ultraview Imaging. They enjoyed their session even though the baby wasn’t cooperating. This is what E. Ables wrote to us a few days later:

Hello my name is E. Ables I was in your office just yesterday dec 31,2009. I wanted to thank you so much for the experience you gave me and my family. That was the best Christmas gift I ever have received. I appreciate you very much for the time you spent to help me get my son to turn around and not face my spine. It was so awesome how you did everything you could to get the best pictures for me and they are great. ~~Your Baby~~
Every day, your little one is looking more like a full-grown baby than a fetus. By the end of this week, he'll weigh about 2 3/4 pounds. For the rest of the trimester, he'll be bulking up and gaining approximately half a pound a week; between now and his birthday, he'll double or even triple in weight. His kicks and jabs are more vigorous now, and you feel like he's moving all the time.

~~Your Body~~

The top of your uterus is four inches above your belly button, crowding your ribs and diaphragm and leaving you breathless. It's also pressing against your bladder, which is why you're making so many trips to the bathroom once again. The placenta, which is flat and round like a cake and delivers oxygen and nutrients to the baby, is also getting bigger; next week, it will weigh 15 ounces. Your baby may be in a head-down position already, prepared for birth. Even if he's in a bottom-down position (called breech), there's still time for him to turn. When he does, he'll drop lower in your abdomen, his head engaging within the pelvic bones at the birth canal.

~~Do's and Don'ts~~

Do feast on fatty foods, just not the ice-cream-and-greasy-bacon type. A "good" type of fat, called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), helps brain and nerve cells develop. DHA can be found in canola, flaxseed, and walnut oils--and in fatty fish like salmon. Try using walnut oil in your salad dressing.

Your Baby:

At 13 weeks from birth, your baby is now almost 14 inches from head to toe and tips the scales at a little more than two pounds. He's bulking up with fat to keep him warm after he's born, and his lungs continue to develop. His immune system is also gearing up for life outside the womb. He has discovered thumb sucking, which isn't such a bad thing in the womb--it helps strengthen his cheek and jaw.

Your Body :

Lately, you may be feeling your uterus tighten and clench for as long as two minutes. The sensations shouldn't be painful, but they can cause real discomfort. They're called Braxton-Hicks contractions, which many women mistake for labor. Look on the bright side: In addition to giving you a hint of what actual contractions feel like (though in labor they're a lot stronger), they also serve to prepare the uterus for delivery.

Do's and Don'ts:

Do keep a journal if mood swings leave you feeling exhausted and confused--writing can help you get a handle on your emotions, which, due to fluctuating hormone levels, might switch from joy to anxiety to excitement at any given time. Your body is morphing in ways you can't control, and so is your life. It's enough to unnerve any mom-to-be.
